San Diego's new French cafe by French owners arrives downtown
Published March 7, 2007
Just north of all the downtown hustle, in an otherwise forgotten block
rises a gem. At first blush, we recognize the guts it takes to venture
north of Broadway Ave., north of all the hooplah. But, it takes something
special to make it north of Broadway and Opera has something special.
Just opened and still getting its groove, Opera should receive the
support of San Diego because it is well deserved.
Opera Patisseries Fines is
a French Cafe established by French owner, Thierry Cahez.
Indeed, that's a very good start. Opera has been
building their San Diego wholesale business since 2002. This cafe is
a new endeavor
for the company. The cafe has a limited menu of quiche, croque, French-style
pizzas, savory puff pastries, and croissant sandwiches. All come with
a small green salad and all are under $6.00. The breakfast pastries
(chocolate,
almond, and plain croissants) are under $3.00. Oh...and yes, there are
sweets to go to top it all off. There is a little something for everyone
who dares to indulge. Fair prices aren't they? Good food, good prices...nice.
And
that's the food. What grabbed us is the amazing customer service.
It isn't that the food doesn't grab you, it does. In fact,
days after
opening,
we had a delicious lunch amidst a seating area full of very happy customers.
The heart is in this place. The customer service comes from caring
and professionalism. Opera is off-the-beaten path AND it is worth the
extra block or two to walk and try it. We will be returning for more...
